Sicily, Italy's Most Photogenic Region

Sicily, with its millennia of turbulent history, picture-perfect hilltop villages, baroque towns, mesmerizing landscapes and seascapes, and cultural treasures is one of the most fascinating and versatile destinations for a photography holiday in Europe.

Western Sicily, the area surrounding Palermo, which also includes Cefalù, Erice, Marsala, and the Medieval towns of Castelbuono, Petralia Soprana and Polizzi Generosa are crammed with some of the best and most varied photographic opportunities you could ever want.

There will be interesting opportunities for street photography in the markets, squares, and streets we will visit, and for shooting some of Sicily’s most iconic locations like Segesta with its ancient Greek Temple and amphitheatre, the impressive Norman mosaics of the duomo in Monreale and the salts pans of Marsala. .

The charming towns and little villages offer great opportunities for cultural and architectural photography, and the huge variety of landscapes and seascapes is fantastic.

We will take you to Western Sicily’s most stunning locations at the right time for the best light.

  • Lunches will be near the photography locations in typical local trattorie and rosticcerie, which offer simple but excellent food based on fantastic local produce and delicacies.

  • Dinners will be near your accommodations in restaurants popular with the local population. However, if you prefer, you can choose to dine somewhere else or stay in the accommodations instead.

  • Sicily is also famous for its street food, and you will have an opportunity to sample some of the best specialties each location has to offer.

  • We have chosen not to include meals in the price of the photography holiday so that everyone can personalise his or her choice of meal; one, two, or three courses; special diet or the full monty; vegetarian, vegan or carnivore, etc. etc.

  • Each participant is responsible for the payment of his or her own restaurant bills.

Climate

Sicily has a Mediterranean climate, with pleasant autumns and springs and very mild winters. Of course, rain is always possible, but it tends to pass quickly. Crisp days with beautiful light and some nice clouds are the norm – ideal photography weather.

Passport and Visa

Italy is part of the Schengen Zone. Please check the passport/visa requirements necessary to enter Italy/Schengen.

Insurance

Please ensure that you have adequate and valid travel insurance that includes medical expenses and medical repatriation. We require a copy of your travel insurance prior to the start of the trip. Furthermore, we recommend you purchase cancellation insurance in case you have to cancel your trip due to unforeseen circumstances. Also check to see whether your travel insurance covers your equipment (most of the time this coverage is inadequate). Some home insurance policies will cover it, but if yours does not, we recommend you take out separate insurance for your expensive equipment.
