Day 1

  • Your arrival in Catania – Focus on Sicilia will provide transportation from Catania International Airport to the hotel in the historical city centre of Catania.​

Day 2

  • Blue hour photography in Piazza Teatro Bellini Catania. Catania’s Opera House with its Sicilian Baroque façade is located on a traffic-free square. (Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Breakfast in hotel - checkout
     

  • Historical fish, fruit, and vegetable market. The colourful and chaotic A'Piscaria market offers some great opportunities for photographing local shoppers and vendors with their catch of the day. Catch the vibe of Catania. (Street, Culture)
     

  • Catania city centre walk. A guided tour of some of the most interesting places for shooting the essence of Catania – from the beautifully restored baroque palaces, the attractive piazzas, and the opulent churches to the picturesque alleys, old workshops, and ancient Greek and Roman monuments.   • Departure
     

  • Brucoli, a small hamlet overlooking the Bay of Catania with Mt. Etna in the background. (Seascape, Culture) 
     

  • Accommodations in Syracuse, Ortigia​

Day 3

  • ​Blue hour photography in Piazza Duomo Syracuse. This is one of Italy's most beautiful squares with some great angles for shooting. (Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Breakfast in hotel – checkout
     

  • Ortigia city walk. A guided tour of the hidden gems of Ortigia Island, the oldest part of Syracuse, which dates back to the ancient Greeks more than 2,700 years ago. Ortigia, with its port and beautiful sandstone piazzas, and its palaces and churches, is jam-packed with photo opportunities. (Street, Culture, Cityscape)
     

  • Departure
     

  • Marzamemi, this picturesque fishermen’s village has wonderful corners to shoot in and around its port. (Seascape, Culture, Cityscape)

  • Noto city walk. This baroque city is a gem of small dimensions. You will have an opportunity to shoot the many historical buildings. (Street, Culture, Cityscape)
     

  • Noto sunset, we will shoot the sunset in Noto from a rooftop terrace. (Culture, Cityscape)
     

  • Accommodations in Ragusa

Day 4

  • Blue Hour – Ragusa Ibla. From Ragusa there is a perfect view of Ragusa Ibla at the other side of the valley. (Cityscape, Culture)

  • Ragusa, a citywalk in to discover the two sides of this baroque city (Street, Culture, Cityscape)
     

  • Departure

  • Agrigento Valle dei Templi. We visit some of the world’s best-preserved Greek temples. (Culture)

Day 5

  • Checkout - departure
     

  • Sunrise at Scala dei Turchi . We photograph the beautiful white cliffs from above at sunrise. (Seascape)
     

  • Packed breakfast
     

  • Mazara del Vallo – city walk. The typical North African souk feeling of the kasbah is still very much present, even after the end of Arab dominance over 900 years ago. The harbour is buzzing with all kinds of activities to photograph. (Street, Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Saline di Marsala, the saltpans of Laguna delle Saline. The characteristic windmills surrounded by the saltpans are fantastic to shoot. (Seascape, Culture)
     

  • Saline di Marsala – sunset. The sun sets directly behind the saltpans, making for great photo opportunities during any type of weather. (Seascape)

Day 6

  • Breakfast in Hotel – checkout - departure 
     

  • Favigna - We will reach the island of Favignana by fastferry from Trapani. This island offers stunning seascapes, the beautifully restored Tonnara – Tuna production plant, and some street photo opportunities (Street, Cityscape, Culture, Seascape)

Day 7

  • Fastferry to Trapani
     

  • Erice city walk - This gorgeous town perched high on a hilltop, has a beautifully preserved historical centre with quaint alleys, a castle, and watch towers. (Street, Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Scopello, we will visit the Tonnara di Scopello, an old tuna processing plant in a stunningly beautiful location. (Seascape, Culture)
     

  • Thereafter we will visit the tiny medieval borgo of Scopello. (Culture, Cityscape)
     

  • Accommodations in Palermo

Day 8

  • Blue hour photography at Teatro Massimo. Teatro Massimo is the third largest theatre in Europe. It has a neoclassical façade and is located on a beautiful square. (Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Breakfast in hotel – checkout 
     

  • Palermo city centre walk. A guided tour will take you to some of the most picturesque places in the historical centre of Palermo, including Byzantine churches, medieval palaces, Renaissance fountains, artisan workshops, and the colourful open-air food markets of Capo and Ballarò.   • Departure
     

  • Duomo di Monreale. The Norman-Arab-Byzantine interior is breath-taking, and the adjacent cloister has some fine angles to shoot. (Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Cefalù sunset - We will shoot the seafront during sunset from the quay to get a lovely perspective. (Seascape, Cityscape)
     

  • Accommodations in Cefalù

Day 9

  • Blue hour photography of the Cefalù cathedral. The cathedral of Cefalù is a Norman-Arab-Byzantine masterpiece, picture perfect with its twin bell towers. (Cityscape)
     

  • Breakfast in hotel – checkout 
     

  • Cefalù city centre walk. This sleepy little seaside town has it all – a great seafront, cute alleys, and a majestic church. (Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Departure
     

  • Castelbuono city walk. This is a small medieval town known as the gateway to the Madonie Mountains. Full of quaint little corners, alleys, and steps. (Street, Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Petralia Soprana city walk - Voted the most beautiful village in Italy in 2018, it has the perfect combination of shabby and chic, with dilapidated old buildings and beautiful palaces.  (Street, Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Cesarò sunset - Cesarò has the beautiful backdrop of Mt. Etna in the distance. (Landscape)

  • Motta Camastra is stuck high against the side of a cliff; this charming town has some interesting corners to shoot. (Street, Cityscape, Culture)
     

  • Sunset at the Gurne dell’Alcantara. A relatively unknown but beautiful location for shooting the small rapids and characteristic basalt walls of the Alcantara River. (Landscape)
     

  • Accommodations – Hotel in Taormina’s historical centre

Day 11

  • Blue hour photography at Isola Bella, one of the symbols of Taormina, perfectly lined up for sunrise (Seascape)

  • Seascapes on the Riviera dei Limoni. We will visit the tiny, picturesque fishing ports and panoramic points along the beautiful and rugged coastline between Taormina and Catania. (Seascapes, Culture)
     

  • Mt. Etna,we will visit some of the most gorgeous historical villages and towns strewn on the flanks of Mt. Etna, Europe’s highest and most active volcano. There will be sweeping landscapes of the fertile plains and Etna, desolate lunarscapes on the volcano. (Landscape)

Sicily, the pearl of the Mediterranean, is not only the largest island in the Mediterranean, but also the one offering the most variety in terms of culture, architecture, and land- and seascapes for shooting. 


The ancient Greek and Roman monuments are amongst the world’s most beautiful. Discover Byzantine, Norman, Arabic, medieval and baroque treasures in each of the cities, towns, and small hamlets we will visit.

The land- and seascapes are captivating, ranging from the majestic Mt. Etna, Europe’s largest and most active volcano, to the sleepy island of Favignana with its gorgeous seascapes. Sicily is definitely one of the most amazing and varied destinations for a photography trip in Europe.  
We are based in Sicily and therefore have a wealth of local knowledge. We designed an itinerary that includes our favourite locations involving a combination of some of Sicily’s most famous landmarks and off-the-beaten-track spots, always interesting to shoot. We will share our in-depth knowledge of the local culture and locations so that you have the opportunity to get great shots whilst also getting to know and experience the true Sicily.     

The Sicily Highlights Photography Holiday will take you around the island, showcasing the best the island has to offer, including Catania with its lively squares and fish market; the baroque city centres of Syracuse’s Ortigia and Noto; the world’s best-preserved Greek temples in Agrigento and Segesta; the quaint fisherman’s ports of Marzamemi, Porticello and Castellamare; the unique salt pans of Marsala; the picture-perfect hilltop towns of Erice, Petralia Sopano, Castelbuono; and the treasures of Palermo, Monreale, and Cefalù.

We will visit unique places like the island of Favignana, the tuna facility in Scopello, Mt. Etna and its surroundings, Taormina, the lovely Riviera dei Limoni and many more locations en route. This all makes for a program packed with opportunities for street, culture, city-, land- and seascape photography.

Meals
  • Sicily is well-known throughout Italy for its genuine, simple, high-quality produce and specialties. We want you to experience also the gastronomical and oenomical excellence and diversity of Sicily and will take you to our favourite places.

  • Lunches will be near the photography locations in typical local trattorie and rosticcerie, which offer simple but excellent food based on fantastic local produce and delicacies.

  • Dinners will be near your accommodations in restaurants popular with the local population. However, if you prefer, you can choose to dine somewhere else or stay in the accommodations instead.

  • Sicily is also famous for its street food, and you will have an opportunity to sample some of the best specialties each location has to offer. 

  • We have chosen not to include meals in the price of the photography holiday so that everyone can personalise his or her choice of meal; one, two, or three courses; special diet or the full monty; vegetarian, vegan or carnivore, etc. etc. 

  • Each participant is responsible for the payment of his or her own restaurant bills.

Reaching Catania

  • Catania International Airport (CTA) is connected via direct flights with numerous capitals and secondary cities in Europe.

  • There are daily direct flights from Dubai.

  • Other intercontinental connections are possible through Milan (MXP) or Rome (FCO) or through London, Paris, Munich, etc. 

Airport Transfers

  • Transportation between the hotel and Catania International Airport will be arranged for you.

  • If two or more participants are on the same flight, their transportation will be grouped together.

  • If you arrive on a different date or at a different airport in Sicily, we can assist in arranging transportation for you, an additional charge may be applicable depending on location. 

Accommodation

  • The accommodations will be in four-star hotels. In some locations, due to the season and their remoteness, we may have to opt for good three-star hotels or five-star hotels. 

  • All rooms have en-suite bathrooms

  • Accommodations are selected based on location, charm, comfort, and facilities such as free Wi-Fi. 

Climate

Sicily has a Mediterranean climate, with pleasant autumns and springs and very mild winters. Of course, rain is always possible, but it tends to pass quickly. Crisp days with beautiful light and some nice clouds are the norm – ideal photography weather.

Passport and Visa

Italy is part of the Schengen Zone. Please check the passport/visa requirements necessary to enter Italy/Schengen.

Insurance

Please ensure that you have adequate and valid travel insurance that includes medical expenses and medical repatriation. We require a copy of your travel insurance prior to the start of the trip. Furthermore, we recommend you purchase cancellation insurance in case you have to cancel your trip due to unforeseen circumstances. Also check to see whether your travel insurance covers your equipment (most of the time this coverage is inadequate). Some home insurance policies will cover it, but if yours does not, we recommend you take out separate insurance for your expensive equipment.
